Profusion Zinnias Add Spice
by Leslie Perrin
One of the newest groups of zinnias is the Profusion series. They have become popular in the last five years for their vibrant show-stopping colors. Flower and foliage are smaller than the old cut-flower-type zinnias and are available in five colors: Profusion White, Orange, Cherry, Fire and Apricot. Profusion Fire and Profusion Apricot provide the most colorful and long-lasting flowers in the series.

The ideal planting time is early April in south Louisiana but you can continue to plant zinnias late into the summer for Fall flowers.
Full-sun location is best. Old flowers should be pinched off to encourage more continual bloom, but Profusion zinnias stay in flower much better and longer than other zinnias. They are also more tolerant than their counterpart to pests and diseases.
Profusion zinnias prefer a well-drained bed, and perform best during drier seasons. As we have been without rain, Profusion zinnias are the perfect choice for a vibrant splash of color in your courtyard. If you have to change out pansies and snapdragons at this time, try the Profusion zinnia. Zinnias are drought tolerant!
